The Joy of Stress
Stress? Bad for you? Get a life. This film argues that the lives of people in the affluent industrial world have never been less stressful. We are working less hard, for more money, in better circumstances than ever before.
Don't worry about stress. This film tells us to worry instead about the burgeoning ‘stress industry' - the cohorts of therapists who live off our alleged inability to cope. The stress industry, it is argued, feeds on defeat, and teaches self-indulgence and self-obsession.
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder? A contradiction in terms. It is perfectly normal to feel distressed after something traumatic has happened. It is not a disorder. Just pop next door for a cup of tea with a neighbour and then carry on.
Occupational stress? It's actually unemployment that is stressful. So climb aboard the nearest roller-coaster, grab life by the horns, wake up and smell the coffee.
